Eddie Ray Hill Jr. Obituary, Texas Shooting, Death: Investigators identified the suspect as 40-year-old Wendell Lane Champion Jr.

A shooting at a Texarkana-area industrial facility parking lot left two men dead and a woman critically injured Tuesday morning, according to authorities. Officials say the suspect, a recently paroled convicted murderer, died by suicide following the incident, which is being investigated as a domestic-related case.

The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. at Texarkana Aluminum, located on Alumax Drive in Nash, Texas. Nash Police responded to reports of gunfire and discovered two deceased men and one critically injured woman upon arrival.

Investigators identified the suspect as 40-year-old Wendell Lane Champion Jr. of Hope, Arkansas. According to police, the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute involving Champion and his wife, 37-year-old Candis Jolene Champion, who is employed at the facility.

Authorities say that during the confrontation, 48-year-old Eddie Ray Hill Jr. of Texarkana, Texas, attempted to intervene after arriving for work. He was shot and killed at the scene.

Following that shooting, investigators report that Champion then shot his wife, critically injuring her before turning the weapon on himself. Candis Champion was transported to a hospital in Texarkana, where she remains in stable condition. Her full medical prognosis has not been released.

Public records indicate that Champion had a prior conviction for first-degree murder in Harris County, Texas, stemming from a 2007 case in which a security officer was fatally shot during a robbery. He was released on parole in 2025.

Authorities confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active, and officials are reviewing all circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Nash Police Department extended condolences to the families of the victims and to employees affected by the shooting.
