Thomas Johnson of Progress Ridge Road Death; Wood County Community Mourning After Fatal Route 50 Crash
The community of Wood County, West Virginia, is mourning the tragic loss of Thomas Johnson of Progress Ridge Road, who lost his life in a devastating two-vehicle crash Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Progress Ridge Road.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a serious collision involving a blue Dodge Dakota pickup truck and an eastbound semi-truck. Investigators said the crash occurred when the pickup truck was attempting to turn onto Route 50 from Progress Ridge Road and was struck by the commercial vehicle.
Authorities confirmed that Thomas Johnson, who was driving the pickup, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The collision also left passenger Jeremiah Johnson of Progress Ridge Road with severe injuries. Emergency responders worked to extricate him from the wreckage before he was airlifted by Life Flight helicopter to Charleston Area Medical Center, where he remains under medical care.
