Shops at Don Mills Accident – Woman dies after being struck by vehicle in CF Shops at Don Mills parking lot
A woman has died after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning in the parking lot of the CF Shops at Don Mills in Toronto, according to police.
Toronto Police Service officers responded to reports of a pedestrian collision shortly after 10:40 a.m. near Don Mills Road and Lawrence Avenue East. Authorities said the incident occurred within the shopping centre parking area, a busy commercial destination frequented by shoppers, restaurant patrons and workers throughout the day.
Toronto paramedics said they attended the incident but did not transport any patients to hospital, indicating the victim was pronounced dead at the location. The identity of the woman has not yet been publicly released pending notification of family members.
Police confirmed that the driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No information has been released regarding possible charges, and authorities have not yet stated what factors may have contributed to the collision.
Unlike many major traffic investigations, public roadways surrounding the shopping centre were not shut down. However, portions of the parking lot were temporarily secured while collision investigators examined the area, collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.
Witnesses described seeing a heavy police presence near the popular retail complex as officers marked off sections of the parking area with tape. Shoppers and employees in nearby businesses were left shaken by the incident, with some expressing concern about pedestrian safety in crowded parking lots.
The CF Shops at Don Mills is one of Toronto’s best-known outdoor shopping destinations, featuring retail stores, restaurants and entertainment venues that attract significant vehicle and foot traffic daily. Incidents involving pedestrians in parking lots can be especially dangerous because of the constant movement of vehicles and pedestrians in confined spaces.
Investigators are expected to review surveillance footage from nearby businesses as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities may also analyze vehicle data and speak with additional witnesses to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the fatal collision.
Police have not disclosed whether speed, distraction, medical issues or weather conditions may have played a role. Officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or captured video from the area around the time of the incident to contact investigators.
The tragedy has once again drawn attention to pedestrian safety concerns in parking lots and commercial areas across Toronto. Safety advocates have increasingly called for improved traffic-calming measures, clearer pedestrian pathways and enhanced driver awareness in high-traffic retail zones.
As investigators continue their work, members of the community have begun expressing condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones following the fatal incident.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected to be released by Toronto police in the coming days.
