According to the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office, Zachary Fisher suffered a fatal gunshot wound during the incident and was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Officials stated that the coroner’s office was formally notified of his death shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday. An autopsy was later conducted through the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police officers with the Austintown Police Department responded to the area near New Road and Laurie Drive after receiving several emergency calls reporting gunfire. When officers arrived, they discovered Fisher suffering from a gunshot wound while a bystander attempted lifesaving CPR efforts before emergency crews assumed medical care.

Investigators believe the shooting may have originated from a vehicle collision that escalated into a confrontation before gunfire erupted. Detectives spent much of the day examining the area and processing evidence connected to two vehicles — an orange hatchback and a pickup truck — located near a nearby car wash. Both vehicles were later towed from the scene as part of the investigation.

Police additionally stated that two children who were present during the incident were safely released to the custody of a family member.
