Since joining the University of Michigan faculty in 1990, she became a treasured member of the School of Music, Theatre & Dance community and a guiding force for aspiring performers. Her dedication to teaching and artistic excellence earned her recognition as the inaugural recipient of the SMTD Teaching Excellence Award.

A graduate of the National Ballet School of Canada, Judy built an impressive professional performing career throughout the United States and Canada. She performed with several renowned companies, including the Joffrey Ballet, the National Tap Dance Company of Canada, and American Ballet Comedy. Her technical brilliance, stage presence, and versatility earned admiration from colleagues and audiences alike.

Beyond her accomplishments as a performer, Judy Rice became widely respected for her exceptional work as an educator and mentor.
